Nature inspires: Purple and blue

Isle of Sky, Scotland
More often than not, you need nothing more than beautiful scenery to inspire great creativity. The most stunning colour combinations can be found when you step out of your front door. You may need to travel a little further afield for some of the more exotic locales, but chances are your backyard can supply you with enough inspiration.

I stumbled upon this amazing photograph of the Isle of Sky in Scotland while working on my fantasy bucket list of places to visit (how is it the no matter how may many places you visit, the list keeps growing longer?), and immediately started to look for similar colour schemes in fashion and interiors. Obviously nothing beats the original, but there are some exceptionally beautiful examples out there (thank you Pinterest!!)

Moroccan fantasy: Riad el Fenn

It's the kind of place that you read about in luxurious travel magazines, hinting at promises of far flung adventure. The delightful Riad el Fenn, which I was fortunate to stay at during my first of hopefully many visits to Marrakech. Tucked away on a busy, dusty road within the walls of the Medina, entering this riad is like stepping through the looking glass. One moment you're surrounded by noise and bustle, and the next, you find yourself in an idyllic courtyard of cool marble, the trickle of water from a fountain and the twitter of birds the only sounds. It's enough to turn anyone into a poet.

Once a grand Marrakech home, the near derelict building was bought in 2002 by Vanessa Branson (sister of Richard) and Howell James, who turned it into a luxurious, art-filled 20-room boutique hotel. There are three pools, one of which is located on the raid's amazing rooftop, and a fantastic hammam which we naturally had to try out! Each room features a different colour theme and the art that Branson has been collecting for decades, which is varied and inspiring.

I definitely want to return to this magical place, where all my senses were simultaneously awakened. It was truly the most relaxing, yet oddly invigorating experience I've had in a long time!

Just because...

(In)famous Cuban cigar lady who lets passers by take a picture of her (for a small fee). You've got to hand it to her, the lady has style! We're fans!

Keep walking bitches!

Girls and their shoes

Eva Mendez
We all know us girls love us some shoes. How often have you heard the guy in your life asking: "Why do you need so many shoes??" It's gotten so bad, that my guy won't even let me near a shoe store - he literally drags me away! And compared with all those celebrity closets out there, my collection is positively puny and far less organized!
But how do you explain to the opposite sex that those black pumps with the kitten heel really don't go with your new J Brand skinnies and that wedge-heeled sneakers actually are very comfortable and on trend, even though he finds them repellant. And yes, you aim to please and want to be attractive to him, wonderful, always-makes-an-effort-for-you him, but sometimes you do dress for yourself. And - shocker - for other women! And that is probably the reason your closet is overflowing with footwear, and was he paying attention when Mr. Big had that insane walk-in closet built for Carrie, because remember when he was asking you what you wanted more than anything in life? Big hint: it wasn't that canyoning trip in the South of France that he was so keen on!
Boys, we want closets full of shoes like these!

Style Crush: Olivia Palermo

Unless you've been living under a rock, chances are you've seen pictures of the socialite and erstwhile reality star Olivia Palermo before. This girl is as pretty as they come, and her personal style is unbeatable. She really knows her accessories (no wonder they featured her working on accessories segments during her stint at Elle magazine on the reality show The City).
The fact of the matter is, this fashionista repeatedly pops up in all sorts of fashion and gossip magazines. But it would be seriously remiss of us to ignore her just because she may be suffering from over-exposure. She's just so damned stylish!

Enduringly chic: Blue and White

DKNY
There is something so refreshing and enduring about the combination blue and white. It's classic but timeless. It looks great in interiors (my bedroom is blue and white, as is my kitchen and the boys' room - in different shades)  and in fashion. I can wax lyrical about that Ikat print in the dress above by DKNY, and don't even get me started on the stunning JK Place hotel in Capri which is on my top five of places still to visit. If ever I were to hit the jackpot, a place in the sun, decorated in navy and white, is the first luxury I would indulge in. Ah, but a girl can dream...
